What stain color is best? They say stain but not color. Oak? Mahogany? and so forth. Also which would be better, shellac or polyurethane? They are not clear on these topics. I think I figured out the paint colors and can use several left overs from my Victory build (this was mentioned in a post).

Welcome to the forum ECK.
The colour of stain I used in the official build is Dark oak, but its up to yourself of which shade you would like.
The clear coat I use is Danish oil but any clear coat varnish should do well. With danish oil it hardens after a while so isn't technically am oil, its a resin.

As for the colours, the blue I used was Ultramarine blue from the Warhammer ranges, but the Admiralty French blue is a very good shade to use. Also red ochre, Brass and Copper Admiralty paints were used. Link below to CMB who ship to the US.

Hope all this helps, look forward to seeing your build pictures on the forum.

Great, thanks. I will do some test samples on shellac vs. polyurethane and see. The latter would be more liquid resistant if I drop glue and paint on it. Looking through the build, the rigging instructions are a bit light. I am glad I did the Victory already to help out.
