Please let’s not turn this topic into a slanging match or hyjack down the lines of Brexit, the topic is about the demise of the High Street.

Thank you

I think it would be fair to say I've made myself clear on some of what I feel are the reasons for these downturns are. I'll say no more on the subject.

Thanks

House of Fraser going into admin today.

All this talk of Brexit, the high street started to decline long before we had the referendum.

I’ve always hated high street shopping myself.

Expensive, sometimes difficult parking
Too many people jammed into a small space, plus people are ruder these days
Inclement weather
Too expensive
Small range, not enough stock (especially clothes sizes)
Takes too much time when I could be doing other things

Maybe we should start calling it the 'Low Street' rather than High street. Town centre's around the country are looking pretty dire....

Lol.
A lot of empty shops where I work, with most being taken up by charity and coffee shops.

https://news.sky.com/sto...fraser-for-90m-11468296[/quote] It’s very good news but it’s also in his own interests as he’s already got an 11% stake in the business which he would likely lose if the business went pop.

Interesting that he also owns close to 30% of Debenhams, its main rival, surely now a conflict of interest and wonder how the Debenhams shareholders will react.

Looks like a number of Poundworld stores have been saved from closure too..
Irish retailing family to snap up Poundworld stores

Also, has the bubble finally burst for Pandora.. Hundreds of job cuts are on the cards at Pandora following a profit warning, which saw its shares plummet.

Seems that DIY big shed retailing is dying and once again, the market has changed in how we buy and online is to blame.

From the 3rd Sept, B&Q will no longer accept new members for its over-60s' Diamond Club discount scheme - and will restrict the offer to gardening products. Over-60s can currently get 10% off all B&Q products in store on a Wednesday if they are members of the Diamond Club - but from 3 Sept the discount is being reduced to around 10,000 gardening products.

Interesting times ahead...
