Beginning Monday 12th April, a thorough review of member registrations will be instigated, primarily looking at those members who registered prior to 1st January 2018. The purpose of the review will be to remove registrations where members have’nt made any posts or comments within the forum and have not visited or logged on to the forum since 1st January 2018. Any member who believes they may fall into this category and wishes to retain their registration will need to log-on to the forum using their username and password. If you have posted or logged on to the forum after 1st January 2018 then your registration will not be affected.

Any member who cannot remember their password will need to click on the ‘Lost Password’ button on the log-on screen and follow the instructions to reset their password.

Regards

Alan

It's to clear the considerable number of 'members' who actually never use the forum.
There are people who perhaps joined MS ten years or more ago, because they were building a particular kit. Once they completed their build, they have never been back.
We appear to have over 8000 members but in reality, that isn't a true reflection of the forum.
Time to clear the dead wood.
We start tomorrow...BigGrin

Is there any particular reason to be doing this now though? Generally DB's are able to handle millions of records with ease.

won't they be cleared out when the new forum comes online in the summer as promised?

The new forum won't automatically remove all the unwanted stuff. It has to be done one at a time which will be a long job.
That way, when the new forum arrives, the members and content can be copied across, minus the names who never visit.

Most migration s/w allows you to do exactly that.

It needs to be done one at a time as we need to check that removing someone doesn't remove content they may have posted long ago that is still a valuable part of the forum for other people.

I am getting a sinking feeling that this has nothing to do with the new forum which appears to be acquiring the status of myth now.

Such a shame.

We are doing a bit of housekeeping, unrelated to anything at all. The new forums are still coming, but again, we are just spring cleaning.

Best,

Mark

Bringing this back on the board as a reminder this process is well underway.... If you are unsure what is happening then please refer to post #1.

Hi All,

We are going to try and keep this at the top for the next week or so. Alan has put together a process that is bullet proof, but in the unlikely event something does manage to wiggle its way through, we will work with you on getting a new handle set up ASAP.
