Hi Malc, Thanks for the kind reply. Another small update today. I basically get 2 Saturday mornings a month to work on my modelling (whilst my wife works) In the past, our daughter has been content to stay with the nanny, but since the beginning of the year she wants to be with me. So, the two of us “work” on “our” models. This usually happens in the garage. But, we’re really into winter here now and it’s much too cold for her. In order to maintain some progress, I’ve moved the operation to our bedroom. This, for the most part, works, but it is a trek every morning with tools, glue, paints etc. So, I’ve decided to use the time to wrap up all the fiddly bits. I followed the instructions, no real curve balls here. One deviation though, I drilled and pinned the bell as the joint looked really flimsy. Once assembled, everything was given a coat of matt black and then dry-brushed light grey. I then gave it a VERY light dusting with GW Eshin Grey. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Hi All, Still in the room. Wrapped up the small boats this weekend. The kit provides one with an interior (around issue 61) and two others with tarpaulins. Somehow, I don’t think that the Pearls crew would spend time neatly covering the boats with tarps. Well, in my opinion, they really look out-of-place. So, I scanned the brass parts, imported the jpg into Rhino, scaled and traced it out. Using our machines at work, cut out two repeat sets of interiors, spikes & oars out of 0.5mm styrene. Once again, everything was given a coat of matt black. I used a light & dark brown on the boats, oars & pikes. Followed by a GW dark wash then dry dry-brushed with lighter shades of brown. Lastly a very light dusting with GW Longbeard Grey just to highlight the edges. I did some rust effects on the anchors, unfortunately this isn’t visible on the pics. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Garth The boats look brilliant. I am always so impressed when i see people using 3d printers and cnc cutters and all that to make their own parts. A world away from my knowledge area but some really good results you get. I think you are right to have the boats finished as you have rather than have them covered. Tony Happy Modelling
