Hi All,BigGrin

I was searching for places to visit, for the odd day out when time permits and came across a site (Link Below). A little way down the page are the "popular categories" where you can look up specific types of venue, or at the top of the page search a location and it lists what`s close.

Hope it`s useful.Blink

Here`s the link:

Meet the bomber command veterans

I have been directed to the following:

The International Bomber Command Centre.

This centre is on target to open Jan/2018,(exact date to be advertised)it will be a memorial, information and heritage centre all rolled into one.

It is designed to be a centre for every person and their country who served in "Bomber Command" in WW2.

It`s top of my list for 2018, not that far away now Eh!!

Hi all, BigGrin

It`s taken a week to get this collection of pics together, but as promised here they are.

Hendon is a free admission museum with a charge of a few pounds for parking.

The first impression I got on entering the main exhibition area, was this place needs to be three times bigger. It`s very difficult to get full pics of a particular exhibit as you will see in some of the attached pics.

Still a nice place to visit with some nice extras, including sit in a Spitfire, 4D cinema, cockpit viewing platforms and you can get under some exhibts as you will see.

Weather turned really grim just as we left. The last two pics give you an idea and that was only the first couple of minutes.

This is just a selection of the pics taken. Enjoy. BigGrin

Great pics Derek BigGrin I think a lot of air museums suffer with overcrowding, but better the aircraft are under cover and not rotting away outside.

Scampton Heritage Centre

Explore the home of the RAF Red Arrows and see the office of the Dambusters' Guy Gibson.

RAF Scampton has had a rich and varied history: from being the base for 617 Squadron (also known as the Dambusters) to housing one of the United Kingdoms nuclear deterrents in the post-war era - the Blue Steel Missile.

Even today RAF Scampton leads an interesting life as home to the RAF Aerobatic Team The Red Arrows, and the host to the Scampton Airshow which raises money for the RAF Charitable Trust.

RED ARROWS
Although the Red Arrows are on tour, displaying across the world, through the summer months, public visits are hosted through the winter training months, from November to March. Visits include a detailed presentation about the team, a chance to see engineers at work, the hangar and one of the planes themselves.
This unique experience has a long waiting list which needs to be applied for through the Red Arrows website.

HERITAGE CENTRE
You can celebrate the history of RAF Scampton at the station's Heritage Centre. It is housed in one of the original WW2 hangars and contains over 1500 artifacts (including a Blue Steel Missile) which will be of interest to all aviation enthusiasts around the world.
A highlight is the original office of Guy Gibson, Commanding Officer of 617 Squadron, remade to as it was in 1943, and the grave of Gibson's dog, 'nincompoop', as made famous in the 1955 film The Dam Busters.
Arranged tours will commence with a guided tour of selected areas of the station, followed by a tour of the inside of the very hangar occupied by 617 Squadron during the build up to the Dambusters raids. Although there are no dining facilities, tea and coffee is available.

Entry to the RAF Scampton Heritage Centre is free to the general public though due to current security measures, prior arrangmenet with the curator two weeks prior to visit is essential. Duration is 2-3 hours.

Contact Ms Maureen Hanson on +44 (0)1522 738361 to arrange a tour.
